JUST FOR KIX OVERVIEW:
At Just for Kix we feel that it’s important for dancers to interact and learn as a team. Team based dance provides new and existing dancers with an opportunity to have fun while learning and growing as a group. We offer precision dance team instruction in over 185 communities and hope to continue to grow. By enrolling your daughter or son in Crookston’s Just for Kix dance classes you will be exposing them to quality dance instruction in a nurturing and culturally rich environment. Each of our communities offer various dance styles including; high kick, jazz, ballet, tap, hip hop and lyrical. Group lessons in Crookston provide young dancers with the ability to learn and perfect new techniques while they create everlasting friendships with likeminded peers. Individuals who take part in team dance activities will develop remarkable socialization skills; achieve a heightened sense of self-esteem, and learn key components in maintaining a healthy and physically fit lifestyle. These life lessons, among others, will benefit your child well into adulthood.
PHILOSOPHY:
Our philosophy has always been to treat dancers as we would want our own children to be treated. We want our classes to be a place where dancers feel valued and cherished. Our goal is to instill confidence and self-esteem, while helping them stay active.
TECHNIQUE and BASICS:
Parents are amazed by how detail oriented JFK is. Basic placement and technique is a major focus. We work on creating good habits in the younger dancers, to prevent bad habits from developing. Creator, Cindy’s philosophy is TAKE CARE OF THE LITTLE THINGS and BIG THINGS WILL HAPPEN. (Possibly why the high school team she coaches has won 8 state championships as well as a National Championship.) Instruction is VERY hands on and focused.
FLEXIBILITY and STRENGTH is focused on too! They are 2 key factors in becoming a great dancer; challenging dancers to advance and progress to their top potential.
CHOREOGRAPHY:
Our choreography is what built our business. It is creative and innovative. DID WE MENTION FUN??? That is the NUMBER ONE ingredient. Our classes are fast paced and fun. We have great music and great instructors.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
1. You will perform multiple times per season at large-scale events.
2. The older classes compete in a “low pressure” environment. (4th grade and up)
3. Your costumes/uniforms are reasonably priced. Core classes use them for 2 years. Many times because of the JFK network your used uniform can be sold to dancers in other communities.
4. JFK is organized. We get it done! Class time is maximized so every minute is utilized.
5. Classes start on time and end on time.

Cancellations- Occasionally, we may have an unscheduled cancellation that needs to be made. This is very rare but should it happen, you will receive a note, phone call or email.
-Any classes that are cancelled will be made-up. Watch for make-up dates on future calendars.
-Please note: if school has closed early or is cancelled due to weather, there will be NO Just For Kix classes that evening. I typically follow the recommendation of the school’s policies given to after school activities as a guideline for canceling classes. Announcements will be made on (KROX AM 1260) and on our webpage on the JFK website. I will also send an announcement via email to anyone who has given me their email address.
No Distraction Environment- The most productive way to run classes is without the distraction of parents and siblings. This allows us to offer the best quality class we can. We only have a short time each week together, every minute is important. I will have a “no distraction environment”. No spectators will be allowed during class time. However, I will allow spectators in the last 5 minutes of each class, so that you can see the progress we are making.
Our Dance Season- Our dance season is broken into different parts.
-Fall classes: Build up our skills, learn our first routines, get uniforms ordered and prepare for performance season.
-December: Our performance season typically begins. Polish our routines. Work on facial expressions & confidence. Routines may be performed many times to build this confidence. We will also continue to introduce new routines throughout the performance season.
-Following the Holidays: Mini Kix class will also begin competing.
-We finish our year with a Spring Show.
At Home Practice- How to help your dancers practice at home? The most important thing dancers can do is stretch on a regular basis. Dancers should do some activity to warm muscles and then stretch as many times a week as possible. Stretching technique is covered at class.
-Dancers who miss class, please arrange to meet with one of their teammates to learn what was missed. Parents may also videotape the routine during the class. This gives the dancer an audio and visual aid to practice with at home. Please Note: Tiny Kix and Wee Petite dancers, at home practice should not be forced. Our goal is for them to enjoy the experience.
Miscellaneous:
-Dancers should arrive through the North door of the building.
-Andrea Ellefson will be my assistant this coming year. She was on her high school dance team and was an assistant in Barnsville, MN for Just for Kix. I am very excited to have her with us this year!
